A survey was done to see how many t-shirts males and females own on average. Here is that data received from the survey below.
For males, N=25. For females, N=20.
X-=27.4 X-=22.5
S=4.7 S=3.9
Our Null hypothesis is that the population mean of males minus the females=0.
Our Alternative hypothesis is that the population mean of males minus females is greater than 0.
Do we reject our hypothesis or not?
For this case:
ReplyDeleteOur se=1.24
We will use 1.729 as our t number because our degree of freedom is 19 and we our using a .05 significance level.
Our critical region then becomes anything less than 2.14 but the actual results are 27.4-22.5=4.9. Since 4.9 is greater than our critical region in this one-tailed test we DO reject our null hypothesis.
